ARTIST STATEMENT
Meditation and prayer are portals of inspiration and understanding. Meaning is revealed slowly, becoming the breath of poems written to accompany each piece. My process is an ever flowing cycle of discovery and expression. The results are simultaneously personal and universal. My intention is to express the energy of virtue through moving color grounded in feminine form. Deep blues, angelic faces and archetypal shapes are hallmarks of my work. Symbiotic relationships between paintings await discovery by those who look closely. It is my hope that the joy that flows through all creation finds it way to you.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Words and pictures were always part of Angela’s life. A native of Ohio, she was a book-loving, tree-climbing artist and poet. She loved creating illustrated stories, and was encouraged to write poetry by her Great Aunt Mary, an Ursuline nun. With a BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, she worked decades as a graphic designer, illustrator and art teacher before becoming a mother. Today, Angela lives in St. Louis with her husband and two teenage children.
Angela’s paintings began as private expressions that emerged as a way to find herself in the midst of the challenges of motherhood. One of the first paintings was Unity, created as a tribute to her family. Through meditation and prayer, she connects to her work in a way she describes as “Paint Dancing In Spirit”. Each piece has its own rhythm, requires trust in the process and evolves along with Angela’s understanding of the theme. The timing varies- some paintings rest for extended periods of reflection, while others move through Angela’s heart and hands quickly. Eventually, the thoughts, musings, and prayers that flowed through her during the creative process are transformed into poems that accompanied each work.
