Description

ARTIST STATEMENT

I think in pictures. Art has always been my first language. My practice began as a life-line, then transformed into my super power. Symbology because my emotional Alchemy to heal indescribable traumas.

My Art can be a reclaiming healing practice, a protective spell, a prayer, a release, an ultimate joy, a reconnection. Art is my first sacred, safe, space.

I create in many languages, but always for myself.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am Andi. I am a donor-conceived, queer, gender theorist, artist, activist, and parent. I was originally created through a “Traditional Surrogacy” Contract in 1985 in California, where I spent my first few years. After being confined to bed with a disability for several weeks as a toddler, I found Art to be inextricable with who I felt myself to be. Art helped me explore my relationship to the world as Other, and as intimate partner abuse survivor, as well as a neurodivergent person. I am self taught and enjoy most mediums, though mostly work with pen and ink, watercolor, and film photography.
