ARTIST STATEMENT
As a mixed media artist, every piece gives me a chance to choose a different way to engage the viewer and spark curiosity. Making every new project a reason to learn a completely new technique means that deadlines can be fraught, however, I hope my own enthusiasm and hesitancy can be felt through the work. Further, I hope in this and other ways, the piece can hold dualities, as I use art to find a balance between the terrible and wonderful. Additionally, I typically incorporate botanicals – often foraged and hand-dried from my garden and neighborhood – to ground the work and offer a sense of intimacy. While each piece has something to say, what I truly want is to spark a conversation with a viewer and allow them to fill the piece with meaning based on their own opinions, interpretations, and lived experiences.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Adrienne Nadeau has been part of the creative community in Chicago for 15 years, initially within the spoken word scene. She has been able to work as a performer, open mic host, and event organizer, gracing the stage in notable venues such as The Green Mill. During the pandemic, Nadeau began her exploration of visual art, using the time to experiment with a number of mediums, including collage, mixed media, and resin, which continue to be her favorite means of self-expression. Finding her way in Chicago’s artistic community, Nadeau has been thrilled to be included at a number of shows, notably Aponte Art Galler, Wayward Art Gallery, and (of course) Woman Made Gallery, which she is excited to once again participate in the 2025 Members Show.
