CHICAGO —Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is proud to present Thesis, an exhibition of 2014 women graduates from MFA programs in Chicago. The show features works by seven artists and is curated by Emanuel Aguilar, who is Assistant Director at Kavi Gupta Gallery and WMG’s exhibition preparator. Aguilar previously worked for Chicago’s Jean Albano Gallery and A & D Gallery, has curated several exhibitions, and helped found the online arts magazine, ‘Jettison.’ Exhibiting artists are Jessica Campbell, Bronwen Lee, Melissa Myser, Janna van Hasselt, Jenyu Wang, Julie Weber, and Sara J. Winston.
Thesis explores ideas of transition and future via situating the work of graduating women artists at the site of WMG, a feminist art space in a moment of acute evolution from its original thesis. While the work itself will mix media, genres, cultures, and origins, the exhibition as a whole will serve as an artistic representation of border crossing for young women artists as they leave the support network and structure of their programs. Woman Made Gallery will perform a re-shaping of itself to embrace and support this crossing, imagining what continued service to women artists will look like in years to come.
