ARTIST STATEMENT
Based on a dream.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chicago has been my home for 39 years. My formative years were in New England where I was surrounded by art in the artist/fishing community of Gloucester, Mssachusetts, where I spent much of my childhood. My B.A. in art is from Brown University and I did graduate work at Rhode Island School of Design (with a teaching fellowship in art education). In 1977, I was awarded a 1 1/2 year-long artist-in-residency through the federally funded C.E.T.A. Arts Project, which was similar to the W.P.A. Project 40+ years earlier.
Before and after moving to Chicago, I taught watercolor part-time in community based adult ed. programs, with occasional commissions and free-lance commercial illustration jobs. I exhibited at Gallery Henoch in New York, was a finalist for a Bunting Institute fellowship at Harvard, and was given a Ragdale art residency here in Illinois soon after relocating
I paint in a studio near home and am challenged by new ideas as my art continues to evolve.
