ARTIST STATEMENT
“Echoes of Earth” is one of my self-portraits; dresses, aprons layered – crafted from monoprinted fabric, leaves, and found wood. A blue-gray leaf anchors the piece, earth-toned leaves shape its silhouette, and a wooden frame adds sculptural depth. In the middle, a basket with crocheted eggs. Nesting as a part of womanhood – but the form also hides the on-going battle with stage 4 cancer – scans of lungs, removal of intestines, colon – and still the desire to protect the fact I am the matriarch of a 4 generation family.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Fecho is a multi-media printmaker/surface designer with an M.F.A. from East Carolina University, a NCBG Botanical Illustration Certificate, as well as postgraduate studies from various institutions including; Jan Van Eyck Academie, Humboldt Field Research Institute, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Northern Illinois University and Penland School of Crafts. She exhibits regionally, nationally and internationally – and has received numerous awards, grants and residencies.
