ARTIST STATEMENT
Just after my mother passed away, I realized she’d been invisible to her family most of her life. I grieved that for her, but also learned, I too, was experiencing the same. The texture gestures were made on top of the figure. They were painted as a veil or a screen to cover her sadness.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Karen Mosbacher is a multidisciplinary artist based in Colorado Springs whose work explores music, emotion, identity, and authentic human experience through painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and collaborative performance. Known for her chromesthesia, she creates visual interpretations of sound and emotion through her ongoing body of work, SŌ SÓ MĒ. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and her paintings created in collaboration with composer Dr. Ofer Ben-Amots are archived in the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. Mosbacher is an Emmy® Award-winning artist whose work continues to investigate the intersection of perception, memory, and the visual language of lived experience.
