ARTIST STATEMENT
My work searches for hidden presences within abstraction and suggestions of wildlife and figuration that emerge from instinct rather than depiction.
Through shifting fields of form, texture, and color, images surface slowly, hovering between recognition and the unknown.
In the studio I follow intuition, allowing the work to evolve through gesture and layered surfaces.
What begins as abstraction gradually reveals traces of something primal and alive. These forms feel unearthed rather than constructed, existing in a space where memory, nature, and imagination intersect.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jane Rieso is a contemporary artist based in Southern Illinois, known for her innovative use of mixed media and her exploration of themes related to identity, nature, and the ways they connect to past experiences and present-day communication.
With a background in fine arts and sculpture, Jane draws inspiration from wildlife and primitive structures, using these influences to reveal stories rooted in her own personal narratives. Her work has been featured in St. Louis Magazine, and she has received recognition including a “Best in Show” award from the Women’s Caucus for the Arts XIV exhibition. She has also exhibited extensively in local and national exhibitions.
Through her art, Jane seeks to challenge perceptions and invite viewers to discover their own connections within the forms she creates.
