ARTIST STATEMENT
Not a chronological time: I hope for an old woman who lives her present, merging memories of the past and anticipations of the future, blurring the boundaries between yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Her past life’s events become new perspectives for a future still to be fully lived. Her mind’s subjective perception of time prevents her from being captive to biological age. Hers is a multidirectional path of life refusing the linearity of chronological time and the space constrictions that society imposes on human beings, especially women. This woman occupies spaces, physically and mentally, as an act of resistance against imposed rules, prejudices, and controlling systems. Even from such a crowded image, she shouts ‘Freedom!’ to us, with both the grace and the determination rooted in the heart of womanhood, a mystery in constant transformation.
The woman’s body moves dancing with Nature. Her actions are feminine connections of cosmic bonds: women and nature share rhythms. We have the freedom and the power to use and move our bodies, and nature is synergistic with us. My artistic research is centered on Resonance with our surroundings.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Paola Tavoletti is an artist and writer born in Rome. She holds an MA in Creative Arts (Illustration) from the University of Hertfordshire (UK) and an MA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from Lancaster University (UK). She is currently enrolled in a Contemporary Arts PhD on Enchantment.
She has published poetry in English, as well as novels and a poetry collection in Italian. As an artist, she uses visual art, poetry, and performance. Her work explores womanhood, female identity, landscape, place, and roots.
