ARTIST STATEMENT
Empowering feminist themes are a point of departure for my multidisciplinary practice. My work begins in a deeply personal place and expands outward into collective experience. Through my practice, I seek to reclaim visual space historically defined by patriarchal frameworks, constructing narratives rooted in agency rather than objectification.
Drawing from art history, mythology, and philosophy, my work weaves historical reference with contemporary urgency. My Latinx heritage informs my engagement with cultural memory and layered identity, reflecting the intersection of personal experience and collective struggle.
My work challenges systems of power and serves as a catalyst for social change. Themes of gender equality, bodily autonomy, and democracy recur throughout my practice, creating work that is both intimate and political while reclaiming space for historically marginalized voices.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Indira Cesarine is a New York-based multidisciplinary artist, curator, and activist whose work explores feminism, identity, bodily autonomy, and social justice through painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, video, neon, and public art. Her work has been exhibited internationally at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Hudson Valley MOCA, The Watermill Center, Mattatuck Museum, National Museum of Women, Art Basel Miami, SCOPE Art Fair, and Sotheby’s Institute, among many others. She is the founder of The Untitled Space, a feminist contemporary art gallery, Art4Equality, a nonprofit advancing gender equality through art, and The Untitled Magazine. Through her artistic and curatorial practice, Cesarine creates platforms that amplify women’s voices while addressing themes of equality, activism, resilience, and empowerment. Her work merges symbolic imagery with contemporary feminist discourse, inviting dialogue around personal freedom, collective action, and cultural transformation.
