ARTIST STATEMENT
My work in clay sculpture shows how the female body holds memories over many years and stresses. These memories are a part of the fabric of our lives that are sometimes triggered by the sight or sound of something familiar. I have explored the use of poetry and sayings in these works so that the viewer can participate in the memories. It seems we absorb all the challenges and conflicts of modern day life even when we choose to forget them.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am the founding President of the Edgewater Historical Society which began in 1988. Prior to that I led an arts project funded by City Arts in 1986 which produced a clay tile wall mural “Young and Old working together to build the heart of Edgewater” installed at the Broadway Armory.
I have been an art teacher for more than 28 years, teaching on the west side of Chicago for 8 years at St. Mary’s Center for Learning and at St. Gregory High school in Edgewater for 20 years. I continue to teach at Robt. Crown Center in Evanston.
I have served in many volunteer positions in Edgewater including , the President of the North Lakeside Cultural Center Board of the Edgewater Community Council.
