ARTIST STATEMENT
I make mixed-media collages using found images, magazines, photographs, and ephemera. By cutting, tearing, and reassembling fragments, I create layered compositions that shift between narrative and abstraction.
My work explores how women are represented, remembered, and shaped in visual culture. I’m interested in how these images construct ideas of identity, history, and visibility. By reworking existing material, I reassemble representations of women into new visual narratives that question inherited ways of seeing.
My intuitive, material-based process allows meaning to emerge through assembling fragments. Collage becomes a way to rethink images as spaces where memory, experience, and interpretation remain open.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cristina Rodriguez, a Los Angeles-based mixed-media collage artist, creates layered compositions about women’s experiences, social justice, and visual culture using found images, magazines, photographs, and ephemera.
She began formal training in drawing and painting in 2017 and transitioned to collage in 2021, which has become her primary practice. Through intuitive compositions, she moves between narrative and abstraction.
Rodriguez’s work has been exhibited internationally and featured in projects like Kolaj Fest, Kolaj Magazine Collage Artist Residency, Women in The Arts Network, and Paris Collage Collective. She has also completed commissioned work for socially engaged contexts, including the California Endowment’s Know Your Rights Campaign and Lamont Digital. Her work has appeared in publications such as Arts to Hearts: 101 ARTBOOK – Collage Edition 2025, Borderline Press Art Zine, Paris Collage Collective Art Books, and Photo Trouvée Magazine.
