ARTIST STATEMENT
I work primarily with acrylic on canvas, allowing chance and material to determine the image. The process is physical, involving building and erasing simultaneously. The surface records what has been added, what has been removed, and what remains, shifting depth and spatial relationships as the work develops.
The paintings unfold slowly, and that time becomes part of the work. Each return changes the surface, redirecting its course. I do not begin with a fixed plan. A painting grows through working and responding until it reaches a point where it can stand on its own. Each one is both an image and a record of its making.
