ARTIST STATEMENT
“The most dangerous part of any form of oppression is that it can make people believe that there are no alternatives.” The Patriarchs; The Origins Of Inequality by Angela Saini
I created “God Is A Woman, You Are Divine” in response to the continuing rightwing assault on not only our rights but also the collective history of women, across cultures, races, and time. The methods applied to the icons, from vanishing cutouts to illuminated glowing figures, reflect patriarchal society’s attempts at erasing our history, rights, and sacred spiritualities. At times the struggle seems lost and at other times successful; yet even a shape removed casts an image if we shine a light on it.
