ARTIST STATEMENT
Divided Threatened Attacked: Woven in US flag colors, its stripes are disjointed, there are holes, it feels a bit out of control. Behind the diamond slits are mirrors to encourage reflection on the state of our union. Wedge weave tapestry, wool warp & weft, glass.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jeane Vogel is a multi-media artist who works in tapestry, fiber, mixed media, and photography. Issues of cultural identity, justice, feminine strength, and connection to antiquity are central to her art practice. Her work often responds to the world about her and incorporates traditions that are common to many cultures. fiber work — tapestry and stitched work — attempt and calm meditative practice. Jeane looks at tapestry as a narrative art form, telling stories through symbols, colors, and patterns that evoke memories, stir emotions, and spark ideas. She is a juried Fellow in the international Jewish Art Salon, a member of the American Tapestry Alliance, British Tapestry Group, Tapestry Weavers West, Warp for a Real Peace, Handweavers Guild of America, Women’s Caucus for Art, Textile Society of America, Weavers Guild of St. Louis, Woman Made Gallery, and other groups. Jeane Vogel exhibits her photography, mixed media, and tapestries in galleries, and private and institutional collections throughout North America. She lives and works in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
