ARTIST STATEMENT
My work has always dealt with the human condition and my experiences as a woman, feminist and mother. My art expresses my concerns, fears, sorrow and sometimes the things that make me laugh. Chicks act as substitutes for my perceptions of womanhood.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cheryl Thomas was raised in a small town in the high desert of Arizona. Her family came west with the railroad in the early 1900’s. Her grandparents settled in the high desert and Colorado River areas of Arizona. Her interest in art began in childhood. Thomas’s work is multi faceted involving painting, mixed media and fiber. It reflects her love of the west and commitment to women’s issues. She attended college in Flagstaff, earning degrees in Arts Management and Art Education. Moving to the east coast she earned an MFA in Painting at SCAD in Savannah, Georgia. Cheryl has exhibited across the country and is in private and corporate collections. She currently resides in Arizona where she lives with her teenage son and dog.
