ABOUT THE ARTIST
HLH Art is a world filled with animals, toys, skulls and interesting characters brought to life in vivid color on wood panels by artist, Heather Humbert. Her paintings tell stories, many of which are still unfolding in the imagery, waiting for the viewer to interpret. The viewer is drawn in by the droll humor and eccentric focus of her work.
Heather has been practicing art for 30 years and holds a degree in Studio Art from Lawrence University. Her background is in printmaking and watercolor, but her current focus is creating original acrylic paintings. In 2021 Heather opened a studio in the 2010 Artblok building in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. She serves on the leadership council for the Artblok artists’ collective organizing and promoting studio events.
Heather spent four years as Arts Retreat Coordinator at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center and five years in a lead administrative capacity at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She coached junior and senior high speech and drama for four years and led several in-school art residencies. During the pandemic, Heather co-founded the Stick Figure Arts Collective providing online shows highlighting contemporary artists from across the globe. Heather serves as the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) building captain for the 2010 Artblok Collective and is also Co-Chair of the board for Minneapolis based non-profit Art is My Weapon.
