ARTIST STATEMENT
Remember when you were a child, creating artworks by cutting and pasting? Well, that’s what I do as an adult, and it’s just as fun and satisfying as it was when I was in kindergarten.
Lovers rock is a soulful type of reggae music with romantic lyrics. This piece investigates some romantic relationships that might be “on the rocks.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Melanie Deal’s paper collages and mixed-media works incorporate both predictable patterns and unexpected elements. Recent exhibitions include “artruckish 2023” (artruck.org), “Our Bodies, Our Health: Navigating the Wars Within and Around Us” at Koehnline Museum of Art, Oakton Community College, and “Roe 2.0” at Woman Made Gallery. She lives in Evanston, Illinois.
