ARTIST STATEMENT
I have used textiles since 1970 to express my curiosity about sexuality/sensuality, gender fluidity transformation, and, currently, the rights of women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ people in both personal and political contexts. My primary medium is dyed silk, a material that can convey weight beyond its ephemeral nature. I’m interested in the extreme contrast between the gossamer lightness of silk and the piercing sharpness of metal and how they can be manipulated to portray the contrasts inherent in addressing the subject matter.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a Chicago-based artist who comes from a family of artists which extends three generations. I attended school in the United States and Mexico, and taught art in private, recreational, and academic settings to children and adults. Exhibits include Evanston Art Center, Lakeview Museum, Prairie State College, Spertus Museum, and Woman Made Gallery.
