“This piece is intended to convey that a sense of loss is often felt below the surface, and all that the world sees is often just the tip of the iceberg. The limited color palette signifies the bleak emotional cloud that pervades even simple everyday experiences, while the focus on the roots highlights the deep and complicated nature loss can take. The work doesn’t parse out the actual material things lost, but rather portrays the mental state one is left to endure.”
