Elaine Woo is a poet and visual artist. She uses text, line work, and multi-media in her art. Her art focuses on themes of eco justice and feminism.
Woo’s home life became fraught with fear, loss, and financial hardship when the covid-19 pandemic brought stay-at-home orders. She sought refuge in her tiny study cum studio. Invitations to partake in virtual events and fulfilling the requests through making, created a safe haven.
The submitted artwork is rendered in individual oversized comic book panels harking back to the days of Golden Age super heroines and heroes, only the super heroines are in distress, out of costume, and sequestered at home to ill effect.
Each panel of art is a narrative of composite characters based on lived experience.
