Kari Stieglitz Black

I teach in a museum setting and also in a liberal arts university.   Though I love making handbuilt sculptural pieces and wheel thrown ceramics, I am very passionate about painting.  I love figurative, narrative, and landscape painting; predominantly in oil, but also pastel, acrylic and watercolor.  I find faces endlessly fascinating, but also the subtle communication that emanates from postures and gestures that become so telling and endearing.  The birthplace of empathy.  When combined with the suggestion of a narrative, the end product is a compelling invitation for the viewer to enter the subject’s world and experience their story.
