“Dissolution” explores the role of touch in human interaction, showing a crumbling relationship between two people who are eaten away by emotional distance and mental conflict, yet who find connection and temporary restoration through physical touch. The painting was created with a complex layering of traditional media and chemical reaction techniques, representing the reactive nature of human bonds while creating a textured surface that invites tactile interaction even as it dissolves the painting into chaos and eats away at the figures depicted.
During this time of isolation we all struggle to maintain human bonds as the lack of physical presence and touch renders difficult relationships volatile and even the healthiest bonds fragile. Appropriately, this textured painting is only being exhibited online, where it simultaneously invites and evades the viewer’s touch.
