Dunces
acrylic on paper

This work is part of a narrative series about power structures and social relationships. The subject is something that has been a source for thought and expression since I was young. As a teenager, I wrote poetry about my life and found the best work that dealt with pain and turmoil. I discovered the narrative as a visual means of communications from re-looking at the poetry I had written through the years. I paint to define and explore feelings. In finding an image that can capture an idea I become more succinct.

These works in particular are about the imbalance of power that creates a sense of a lesser and greater group. I want to somehow paint about the injustice I feel and hopefully bring an idea into the open to discuss and work through differences and begin to nurture communication and tolerance.
