I see myself as an artist who sews. A love of travel, and years as a military spouse, with its frequent moves and opportunities to learn about various cultures, inform my work both with personal insights and social commentary. The cutting and re-stitching inherent in quilt making can be seen as a metaphor for the turmoil of military life. After years exploring my personal story as an Army Wife, my more recent work questions current topics of safety and security in American culture. I enjoy traditional quilt piecing by machine, and varied hand embroidery embellishments, but am not opposed to using any technique or material if it is appropriate to the message to be conveyed in the artwork.
