This piece is from “Elementary,” a series that was inspired by my running across a book that I hadn’t seen since I was four. The story brought back a very clear since of how as a four year old, I had tried on fables and stories almost like a suit of clothes in an attempt to place myself in the world. “Elementary” uses the visual language of children’s books to explore my fascination with how we use the archetypal narratives we are given by our families, our cultures, and our society to define our relationships both with the outside world and with ourselves.
