The Pond
silver gelatin print
15 x 15 in.

Twenty-five years ago I moved to the United States for advanced studies in bronze casting techniques and to expose myself to a totally new culture, one less inhibited by the authority of history. I explored a variety of media to express myself: from sculpture to drawing to photography. My art work evokes universal ideas relating to the human condition.

Since my arrival here my research and creative work have gradually become centered on the female figure. My most recent work has addressed fundamental aspects of my own life experiences as a woman. Themes such as motherhood, death and mourning, and the celebration and renewal of life through the menses have become my predominant directions.
