Fear of Failure
steel
38 x 10 x 11 in.

My sculptures have consistently revolved around the idea of taking a single element and joining it with others to create mass. While creating a series of steel vessel forms, I recurrently saw aspects of my personality in the rod configurations. It was then that I knew it was time to bring my visualization of my ‘core’ to material form. Ever since I was aware of the concept of having a ‘core’, I was able to visualize what that core looked like at different times in my life when I was affected deeply. The fiber materials represent my vulnerabilities and the steel represents the strength that I have to overcome the adversity.
