Still Lives #8
silver albumen print
This body of work was born of a desire to craft a series of still lifes that evoke the classic photographic and painterly tradition of “vanitas,” a form of still life that portrays the transience of life through object and metaphor. My series reflects the traditional with a slightly sinister whimsy. Many of the anthropomorphic figures are imperfect, sometimes chipped and fragile, while much of the fruit is overripe, cut or eaten. These images are my reflections on the variety of the things we consume, and those things that consume us.
