Skopelos 9973
monoprint
24 x 17 in.

I approach printmaking as a painter — that is, I make use of printmaking as a tool in creating unique works, primarily works on paper. Traditional techniques, such as woodcut and linocut are elements in my work, along with newer computer based technology and old-fashioned painting and drawing. I do not aim to make fine editions, nor am I particularly interested in the “rules” of printmaking. I simply view printmaking as a wonderful way to incorporate strong graphic elements into my work.

These prints are based on a photograph of my mother as a young woman, and include images from the Greek Island of Skopelos where I was an artist in residence in 2002 and 2004.
