Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1958, Beatriz Ledesma is a surrealist professional painter living and working in Chicago. Her career as a painter began during the 70s under a backdrop of political, social and economic turmoil. Painting was her refuge. Influenced by the work of surrealists, symbolists and the seminal ideas of psychoanalysis Ledesma’s art work attempts to unveil the unconscious, the spiritual, and the mystical through the art-making process. She mostly works in series. She holds a M.Ed. from her native country and earned a M.A. in Art Therapy (1988) from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She works out of her studio at the Fine Arts Building.
