Anna M. Tyler studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and La Esmeralda Art Academy in Mexico City. She is a writer, curator, historian and lecturer. Her writing as been published in The International Quarterly of African American Art, Woman Made News and N’digo Newspaper, among other publications.

Under the auspices of DePaul University, Anna M. Tyler taught experimental art classes to hearing impaired youths at the South Park Community Center. She has also taught monoprint techniques to artists.

Tyler’s work has illustrated the covers of four books by the poet Gwendolyn Brooks. Examples of her work have also been included in periodicals such as the Western Journal of Black Studies published by Washington State University Press.

Tyler’s work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions including at The Art Center in Highland Park, Concordia University, Atlanta University, Chicago State University, Millikin University, the Martin Luther King Complex in Columbus, Ohio, Nicole Gallery and most recently at Adams Fine Art in Chicago. Tyler was featured in a solo exhibition at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s African American Cultural Center gallery.

Tyler’s work is in the permanent collections of the DuSable Museum of African American History, the Johnson Publishing Company, Malcolm X Community College, Soft Sheen Products, the State of Illinois Museum, and the State of Illinois Centennial Collection.
