Death of the Oak
oil on canvas
43.5 x 60 in.

I am inspired by the natural world, particularly by animals, and frequently use animal symbols. I see the black raven as an omnipotent observer. I believe that human activity is having a dramatic effect on the natural world, soon to be irrevocable.

My painting “Death of the Oak” speaks to the impact and frequency of severe weather intensified by climate change due to global warming. I believe we must turn back to nature as the source that nurtures and sustains us. It is more difficult to harm nature if you feel you are a part of it, as opposed to governing over it. This fundamental shift in thinking is essential for our survival. Nature offers us hope and life. I have abundant hope that humankind can make this shift for the future.
