More so than any previous period in history, our generation of humanity lives with the possibility that our world could change drastically overnight. Threats of nuclear war, globalization, artificial intelligence, global warming, unrest between cultures, and epidemics like AIDS are only a few things threatening to change (and in many cases have already begun to transform) life as we know it.
In such a volatile and yet fast-paced era, there are many serene moments ignored by mankind. I call this body of work “Nostalgia for the Present.” It suggests awareness of the previously mentioned fates and calls to memorialize what exists today. The work depicts scenes that have not normally been deemed beautiful, but are familiar settings and/or occurrences that we have often taken for granted.
