Mandala One – fiber; 27 x 27 in.
Linda Frizzell
I watched a group of Tibetan monks create a sand mandala over the course of several days and was inspired to work that way myself: starting in the middle and working out, changing from square to circle to square. I begin with no design in mind, just allow it to evolve. The curiosity to find out what it will look like in the next hour, the next day, is what motivates me to create these mandalas. Each spot of color is a separate piece of fabric and each piece is sewn down individually. My quiltmaking technique is a combination of collage and applique.
