After a challenging career as a designer, illustrator and teacher, I began making hand-painted artist books in 1992. Recently, turning to clay, the medium allows dimension and detail to merge with story and expression. In this new series, “Portrait of the Artist As” I imagine myself as whim meets fancy, inspired by history, art, style — and text.

These miniature works are built from coils, sectioned, thinned to ¼ inch, details glazed, then high fired. Each contains a secret.
