SUMMARY:Opening Reception - Acts of Care: Nurturing the Present\, Shaping the Future
DESCRIPTION:Juried by Kristen Carter\, this exhibition defines care expansively while taking it as the base of our collective life. From child rearing to mobilizing a grassroots social movement\, to care for someone or something is to imagine and invest in the present for the sake of a better future\, however big or banal. Acts of Care: Nurturing the Present\, Shaping the Future also recognizes the gendered\, ableist\, classed\, and racialized terms of care\, and the often-invisible nature of care work as work. As such\, this exhibition gives space to see and explore different experiences and interpretations of care\, including but not limited to reproductive labor\, affective labor\, domestic work\, care work\, and/or any facet of social\, political\, cultural\, and ecological caretaking. \nView the exhibition here: https://womanmade.org/acts-of-care-nurturing-the-present-shaping-the-future/ \nThis event is free and open to the public! \n

SUMMARY:Queer Self Portraits Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Reimagine yourself through paint in this bold\, creative\, and affirming workshop led by artist eve bridges! This acrylic painting workshop introduces participants to diverse and imaginative approaches to self-representation\, empowering queer individuals to articulate and manifest their own visions of self. While traditional portraiture reflects what the eye sees\, this session invites you to defy convention—creating queer self-portraits imagined as landscapes\, symbolic collections\, or towering deities. \nLed by Chicago-based artist Eve Bridges\, whose own work reimagines trans and queer bodies as stylized landscapes\, the session draws on work by women and LGBTQ+ artists to inspire reflection on what feels essential to one’s identity—especially in a time when definitions of selfhood are increasingly in flux. No experience necessary. Materials provided. All are welcome! \n\nSunday\, July 27\n10am–12pm\nOnly 12 spots are available – click here to reserve your spot!\n\nAbout your instructor: \neve bridges is a white transwoman and self-taught artist living in Chicago. eve’s work focus on reimagining trans and queer bodies as stylized landscapes. when not working\, painting or writing eve loves to build a queer archive from used books purchased from lgbt+ retail stores. her cat’s name is tree. \n
