ARTIST STATEMENT
A nod both to the myth of Atlas and the quote by Mao Zedong, “Holding Up The Sky” is an expression of the enormous societal burden we place on women to carry the mental load for our families and do the emotional labor for everyone around us. We praise women for their heroic strength while providing them zero support and in fact actively undermining their agency and autonomy.
