My work explores beauty and violence in the context of power. What gives us power as women? What does our culture tell us that we need to have, to be, to look like, for us to be powerful? Is beauty power? Is suffering? Is anger?

I’m interested in creating images that juxtapose power and powerlessness, that are both beautiful and disturbing, that critique our culture’s definition of an “acceptable” powerful woman.

In feminist movements, as in all social movements, there are power structures at play. We still operate within certain institutions of thought perpetuated by cultural myths. And if the mainstream feminist movement still privileges white, middle class, straight, cisgender, able-bodied women, how does that impact what we consider to be an image of a powerful woman?
