I have been making linoleum prints and artist's books for over two decades. The time of carving meticulous designs is my personal time for reflection and self-realization. In the figurative works from the “Emotional Body” series, I explore the oppression and marginalization of women, and portray the feminine body as a signifier of patriarchy: its abuses and the struggle against it. I use compositional and figurative dramatizations to express emotional states and address issues of displacement and loss, as well as transformation and self-realization in women’s lives. I combine printmaking with fiber art to bridge fine arts and the tradition of women’s work, in which the needle is an instrument of drawing. Stylistically, these works echo German expressionism and cave painting.
