ARTIST STATEMENT
Existing in a feminine body today is both an act of resistance and an emotional burden. The contemporary feminine experience is a constant battle between expectations, political power, and choosing between comfort and conformity. It’s constant vigilance in the grocery store parking lot or city street. My pieces feature bodies folding over into misshapen masses, limbs in unnatural poses, and delicate yet violent imagery to reflect the way women have to fit into society. Daily life can become a choice between safety and autonomy. The liberated feminine body is an act of resistance, but the emotional cost of that body is emotionally draining. The bodies I paint are crying out in quiet pain. My work speaks to femininity today: the duality of flesh and makeup, the emotions churning inside, and the consumerism of the feminine body.
