Starting in 1987, I have spent time in the deserts of the southwest. I am originally from California, but now live outside of Santa Fe on the edge of the Galisteo Basin. The southwest plants and landscapes have captured my interest. Survival in the harsh environment fascinates me. Images of those landscapes are ending up in my work. This work is a combination of many processes. The work starts with a camera. On my travels I take many photos of things that interest me. Many times they end up as ideas for drawings or other work. If an image interests me I will make a drawing from photographs that I have taken. From there I will use a variety of printmaking processes to make a print, including, monotypes, solar plate etchings, drypoints, collage, chine colle, carborundum and other process. Each print is one of a kind. While working in advertising and design for 25 years, I took up printmaking and painting in 1987 and have steadily devoted more time to the art. I studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1995 to 1997. I have taken many workshops locally and abroad, including a month long printmaking workshop at Santa Reparata Studios in Florence. I have taken a variety of workshops at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California. In Santa Fe, I have taken workshops from Dan Weldon in solar plate making, and Ron Pokrasso in collage/printmaking. I am a juried member of the California Society of Printmakers, The Los Angeles Printmakers, and the Boston Printmakers. My work has been included in shows regionally as well as nationally. |
